1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

We believe location intelligence and public open data should be accessible to everyone. Postcodewise is engineered to provide an inclusive digital experience for all visitors, including individuals with visual, hearing, cognitive, neurological, or motor impairments.

Maintaining an accessible platform is an ongoing commitment. We continuously audit our user journeys, UI components, color palettes, and interactive tools against modern web standards to eliminate accessibility barriers.

2. Compliance Standards & Guidelines

Postcodewise targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and complies with the requirements of the UK Equality Act 2010.

Our automated and manual continuous integration pipelines enforce strict validation across key success criteria:

SC 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum): Text and images of text maintain at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio (and 3:1 for large text) in both Light and Dark themes.
SC 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast: UI components, form inputs, toggles, and graphical boundaries maintain at least a 3:1 contrast against adjacent backgrounds.
SC 2.1.1 Keyboard Navigation: All interactive features, modals, dropdowns, and search bars are fully operable via standard keyboard commands.
SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible: Interactive elements display prominent, unobstructed focus indicators when navigated via keyboard.
SC 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum): Touch and pointer interaction targets provide at least 24×24 CSS pixels with sufficient spacing.
SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: Form elements, buttons, and custom controls convey semantic roles, states, and accessible names to assistive technologies.

Calibrated dual-theme color schemes prevent visual fatigue and support photophobic or low-vision users with zero contrast degradation.

Semantic Structure & ARIA

Pages use HTML5 landmarks (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer>) and logical heading hierarchy (<h1> to <h6>) for effortless screen reader navigation.

Responsive Zoom & Reflow

Content adapts cleanly up to 200% browser magnification without horizontal scrolling or truncation of report analytics.

Motion Reduction

We respect the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting, automatically disabling decorative animations and non-essential transitions.

4. Third-Party Content & Known Limitations

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility across our core codebases, some third-party integrations and external links may not yet achieve full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance:

External Datasets & Portals: Postcodewise links to external public-sector data portals (e.g. Police.uk, Department for Education, HM Land Registry, and Ofcom) which are maintained independently by third-party authorities.
Interactive Map Tiles: Underlying vector and raster map tiles provided by open geospatial sources may have inherent contrast limitations for certain cartographic features. We provide tabular data summaries alongside all maps to ensure information is never communicated solely through visual imagery.
User-Generated Workspace Content: Floor plan labels, survey titles, and custom CSV columns uploaded by workspace collaborators are within the control of individual workspace administrators.
